Brief Thoughts on Voting

I’m trying to do my civic duty and fill out my ballot for this year’s Colorado election, but it’s a royal pain in the ass, even after dragging my feet for a solid week or so.

Some elections only have one or two items, but this year it’s a laundry list of drugs, alcohol, and gambling, so I guess business as usual, but an awful lot of it.

I guess all the judges have good recommendations, so that part was easy. After slogging through the amendments and propositions, I’m finally on the politicians, but this is the hardest for me because it’s so hard to research these people and know how they are going to behave in the future.

I prefer to vote republican more often than not, but a lot of the republican candidates kind of suck, so it looks like I’ll be voting for a decent amount of blue this year. But I also don’t know why I’m voting on a county coroner and county assessor. I guess I kind of understand county sheriff, but I don’t know how being republican or democrat really affects some of these jobs. Maybe I’m just a terrible citizen for not knowing the history behind some of this or why voting for a treasurer really matters.

I’m just exhausted. Who are these people? Are they good, or are they assholes? Are they maybe a little of both? I don’t know. But I’m definitely going to put this off to day 3 of trying to research, because as much as I want to exercise my democratic right to vote, how do you get all of this right in a timely manner?
